Ingredient (as printed) | What it is & why it’s used | Typical hazards* | RISK Meter |
---|---|---|---|
Oleyl amine ethoxylate (sometimes written oleyl amine EO) | A non-ionic surfactant made by attaching ethylene-oxide units to oleyl amine. Helps the liquid wet the porcelain, break up organic soil and keep particles suspended so they rinse away. | Coconut-derived non-ionic surfactant — lifts organic soil, improves wetting. Classified under GHS as Skin Irrit. 2, Eye Dam. 1, Aquatic Chronic 2 (H315, H318, H411). | Moderately —irritant/corrosive at high concentration, but not acutely toxic in consumer‐level dilution. |
Acid Blue colour (e.g., Acid Blue 9 / Brilliant Blue FCF) | An acid dye that gives the product a vivid blue tint so users can see where it has been applied. | “not hazardous” at use levels. Food-grade dye — colour indicator | Low – mainly an eye/skin irritant powder; very diluted in finished cleaner. |
Dodecyl CTAC (likely dodecyltrimethyl- or cetyltrimethyl-ammonium chloride) | A cationic surfactant/disinfectant that disrupts microbial cell membranes and boosts cleaning. | Plant-based quaternary ammonium — broad-spectrum disinfectant | Low — mainly an eye/skin irritant powder; very diluted in finished cleaner. |
Butyl acetate | A fruity-smelling solvent/penetrant that helps dissolve oily residues and aids fragrance dispersion. | Naturally occurring solvent (fruit esters) — boosts soil removal & fragrance dispersion | Low — mainly an eye/skin irritant powder; very diluted in finished cleaner. |
Hydrochloric acid (HCl) | Strong mineral acid (typically 5-12 % in household toilet cleaners). Dissolves limescale, rust and mineral deposits. | GHS: Skin Corr. 1B, Eye Dam. 1, STOT SE 3 (respiratory). Causes severe burns, releases corrosive fumes; reacts violently with bleach or alkalis. | Moderately —irritant/corrosive at high concentration, but not acutely toxic in consumer‐level dilution. |
DM water (demineralised water) | Highly purified water; keeps the formula stable and free of hardness ions that could interfere with surfactants. | No hazards. | No |
